Your First Brazilian Wax: What to Expect (and Why We Made It 40% Off)

Brazilian waxes can be super intimidating for first timers! It's the type of service that a lot of women consider and research for months before actually booking. It totally makes sense, though! It's a vulnerable appointment, and the difference between a good wax and a bad wax almost always comes down to who your waxer is.
At JGD Salon in Hilton, NY, our esthetician Lydia has turned nervous first-timers into devoted regulars more often than we can even count. In this post, we'll go over what happens during your wax appointment, important info like before/after care, and why we offer 40% off to clients receiving their first Brazilian Wax with us.
What is a Brazilian Wax?
A Brazilian wax removes all (or nearly all) of the hair from the bikini area. Unlike a standard bikini wax, which just cleans up the edges, a Brazilian Wax covers the full area, from front to back. You can choose to leave a small strip if you prefer, or go completely smooth. The entire appointment can take anywhere from 15-45 minutes (longer for first visits since Lydia takes time to walk through the process and ask any questions before she begins).
Is it going to hurt?
Honestly? Yeah, a little! But it's not as bad as people expect. There are a few things that can affect how your skin feels:
Individual pain tolerance and skin sensitivity.
Where you are in your menstrual cycle (avoiding the week before or during your period helps)
Hair that is longer than 1/2 inch.
The first appointment tends to be the most uncomfortable. By the 2-3 appointment, your hair grows back finer, and the appointments feel significantly easier (and faster)!
How to prepare for your appointment?
Just a few things to ensure the smoothest appointment (pun intended!)
Hair Length: About 1/4 inch is best (or 3ish weeks of growth). If it's too short, the wax won't be able to grip it. If it's too long, it can be significantly more uncomfortable.
Skin Prep: Come with clean, dry skin. Skip lotions and skin oils the day of your appointment. Light exfoliation 1-2 days in advance helps remove dead skin cells, which will help hairs come out easier!
Timing: Try to schedule your appointment outside of the weeks during and right before your period. Your skin is more sensitive during that window.
What to wear: Loose, breathable clothing.
Optional: You can take ibuprofen about 1 hour before your appointment if you're super nervous!
How often should you wax?
The best timeframe between appointments is 4-6 weeks. That timing aligns with the natural hair growth cycle. The first few appointments are always an adjustment period of getting all of your hairs synced on the same growth cycle.
By appointments 3-4, most clients notice that their appointments are taking less time, and the overall experience feels much easier. Waxing is one of those services where consistency genuinely pays off.
