What is it?

The easiest way to describe a head spa service is to compare it to a facial...but for your scalp! It's more than just a shampoo. It's a full scalp and nervous system reset. Here at JGD Salon, we developed our head spa protocol by mirroring it with our facial protocol. We've gotten so much good feedback on our facials (if you haven't tried one yet...you're really missing out), so it was a no brainer. We start with analyzing your scalp using a special microscope. This way, we can select products that make the most sense for you. Got dryness? We have products for that! More on the oily side? We have products for that, too. We use the full range of the Keune Care line to customize your Head Spa, just like your esthetician does with your facials. We then select exfoliation, masks, serums, and oils based on your skins needs.

And YES...we have the special sink with the halo faucet. And yes...it feels as good as you think it does! If you're looking for a Japanese Head Spa near Rochester, NY....we're your people!

Benefits of a Head Spa

There's a reason Head Spas have been part of Japanese culture since the 1600s. Head Spa evolved from holistic Japanese practices like acupressure (shiatsu) and ancient massage techniques (anma). While western culture seems to have just recently realized that hair health is deeply connected to scalp health, Japanese culture has known and practice this for many, many years.

  1. Scalp Health: Removes build up, improves circulation, and supports health hair growth through the use of products and massage techniques.

  2. Stress Relief & Relaxation: We're extremely intentional with our technique as well as the environment. The beds are warm and cozy, the products smell incredible, the music is soft and lulls you into deep relaxation. It's not uncommon for clients to fall asleep during their Head Spa. If you're looking for a Mother's Day Gift idea, or a special treat for the busy women in your life, a gift certificate for a Head Spa is guaranteed to bring a smile to their face!

  3. Hair Growth: It's important to recognize that scalp health is one of many components that contribute to your overall hair growth. While it's not the only thing that matters, it's definitely a bit piece of the puzzle! Your Head Spa can support shine, manageability, and overall healthy hair growth.

Who is a Head Spa For?

  1. First timers looking for relaxation

  2. Clients experiencing scalp dryness, oiliness, or build up.

Common Head Spa Myths

  1. It's just a fancy shampoo. No way. If a Head Spa is just a fancy shampoo, then a facial is just a fancy way of washing your face. That's bonkers.

  2. It's only for people with scalp issues. A head spa is great for scalp care...but it's also a great way to practice some self-care, optimize your hair health, and indulge in some major relaxation.

  3. It's not worth the time. Said no one ever.

What to expect during a Head Spa at JGD Salon

  1. You'll enter our salon (Located at 109 Lake Ave, Ste 103 in Hilton, NY) through our main entrance and will be greeted by our staff.

  2. You'll then be brought upstairs to one of our 2 treatment rooms, where your beauty pro will go over your consultation form to ask about your hair/skin needs, preferences regarding massage, and any other details. They will also show you how to lay in the bed and where your head should be on the Head Spa.

  3. Your beauty pro will step out of the room while you undress. We recommend removing your top (a robe can be provided if preferred) so that it doesn't get wet. Then you'll get cozy in bed.

  4. Your pro will come back in and begin your service with a scalp analysis using a special microscope.

  5. At this point, the chatting usually tapers off as we begin your service. The music is soft and relaxing, the bed is warmed, and a heated steam eye mask is placed over your eyes for an added touch of luxury. We'll go through the steps of cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and treating your scalp. Interspersed between steps, you'll have approximately 20 minutes beneath the halo waterfall faucet.

Why choose a professional head spa vs at-home treatments

If you're educated, savvy, have an unlimited budget for tools and products, and passionate about skin/hair products and genuinely enjoy a DIY approach...a professional head spa might not be the best fit for you strictly from a hair growth perspective. You'll never get that level of relaxation from massaging your own head, though!

On the other hand, if you're looking for a holistically curated and luxe option for your scalp AND nervous system? Our Head Spa in Hilton, NY is the way to go.

How Often Should you Get a Head Spa?

We recommend every 6 -ish weeks.

If you've been craving deep relaxation and healthier hair, our head spa might be exactly what you need.
